Hi! My name is Ben, and I would like to introduce you to my favorite day of the week – my Wee Play day!

I always know when my Mom and I get to the Wee Play studio, because the sunflower that I planted with Miss Kathy outside is really, really tall. (We planted it in the spring!)

When I walk in the Wee Play door,  it’s bean table time, which is really, really cool.  Some tables have cars and trucks to drive through the beans, and other tables have animals, scoops, and all kinds of different things for pouring and playing in the beans. Mom says it’s great for introducing me to textures, learning about sharing, and developing manual dexterity. (Whatever that is!) On other days, we play in a great make-believe little kitchen, where we pretend to cook things and store them in a refrigerator.

After playing at the bean tables or in the little kitchen, Miss Kathy tells us “two minutes to circle time!”  My Wee Play friends and I love circle time, so we hurry to the big cozy rug and sit in a circle with our Mommies, Daddies, Grandparents, or Nannies.  We all sing the welcome song, which helps us learn each others’ names. Miss Kathy always has different stories to read, games to play, and songs for us to sing together—and they’re all based on the theme for the day. I love circle time!  And my Mom loves it too, because it has taught me how to sit still for more than 5 minutes, listen, and sing along!

We next go to craft time! Miss Kathy has tables and chairs set up for us to do our craft project, which is also based on the theme for the day too. One day we made shimmery snow with paint and glitter and another day we made beautiful flowers using paper cut-outs of our hands as the petals and real sunflower seeds for the centers.  I love the crafts because each week it’s something new and fun that I can take home and play with. Mom gets lots of great ideas for things we can play with at home, like driving my toy cars through shaving cream snow!

After we put our craft projects on the drying racks, it’s off to play in the “big room,” where Miss Kathy has the best toys--hula-hoops, cars we can sit on and drive, and different size balls to roll down tubes or to toss—that we play with, all to music. Some days the parachute comes out, and we ride on the top or run under it to find all the different colors.  We play new games every week!

When our Wee Play time is almost done, we all sit down at the toddler tables and have a snack together. Miss Kathy always finds treats that match our themes. For Halloween, she made us yummy pumpkin muffins.  For our spider theme, she made donut hole spiders with pretzel stick legs.

It is hard to believe that we get to have so much fun in just one hour! Before we leave, Miss Kathy gives out special stickers for the day. She always lets us pick out what color smilely face we want, and then she gives us another sticker that matches the theme for the day too!

Mommy and I have made new friends at Wee Play, and we can’t wait to see them all again at our Wee Play class each week!  Mommy says she loves Wee Play because it will make it so much easier for me to transition to preschool.  But the really special part, she says, is that she and I get to play together each week and that she sees me grow and learn right in front of her eyes.
